Distance Education
As a Distance education student, you will be able to start anytime! and structure the course schedule to suit your timing: You may complete the course in as little as 6 weeks or up to one year.
As you will study this course via distance education, the Director of Studies of QIBA (Mr. Helmer Lich) will be your trainer with responsibility for your study supervision and your practicum placement. He will equip you with your study resources and will organise group tutorials with other students studying the Cert IV TESOL in the Gold Coast area. You may need to be willing to do things such as:
- Travel some distance from time to time to QIBA to attend meetings with your supervisor or attend group tutorials.
- Take some time off from work each week or for a short period sometime during your enrolment, in order to attend your practical placement.
- You may need to allow for travel and accommodation costs if QIBA is located a significant distance from home.
You will also be able to join the student lounge of LTI and use the additional resources, tips for tasks and answer templates especially developed for distance education students.
Outcome A:
For those with no previous teaching experience or tertiary qualifications
If you do not have the qualifications or experience, you will be able to teach English in a less demanding and capacity. For example:
- Teaching English to groups of students visiting Australia on short term study tours
- Teaching conversational English in Australian language schools
- Teaching migrants in a supervised and limited capacity for the development of general English skills
- Teaching overseas students on an individual tuition or small group tutorial basis
- Teaching English overseas in institutions not governed by Australian standards
Outcome B
For qualified or experienced participants
If you already have a tertiary level degree or some teaching experience, you will find a wider range of employment opportunities. For example, in Australia, the combination of a University Degree and the Cert IV in TESOL would be sufficient for teaching English at a National ELT (English Language Teaching) Accreditation Scheme (NEAS) accredited training centre.
