Lyn Tyler

Mrs Lynn Tyler - Principal

has been in charge of ELICOS colleges for the past 17 years and without doubt is one of the most experienced educators and administrators in this education sector in Queensland. She has held the position of Queensland State delegate for the ELICOS Association and has been on a number of advisory committees on a local, State and National level. Mrs Tyler actually started her teaching career in Coolangatta and has worked tirelessly throughout the world to promote the Gold Coast region as a true centre for educational excellence. “The Gold Coast is one of the most welcoming international communities in Australia and Coolangatta is a safe, healthy and picturesque environment for both English language and Business study, suitable for all age groups. Mr. Helmer Lich - Director of Studies,

(B.Ed. M.A. Appl. Ling. Grad. Dip.Int. Comm. Dip. TESL RSA FACE Cert IV in Workplace Assessment and Training)
has over 30 years' experience in English Language Teaching, Curriculum Development and ESL Administration. Mr. Lich has been in charge of Queensland Government ESL Programs and has been a member of National Committees of Immigrant Education, advising the Australian Government. Mr. Lich lectures in TESOL subjects at University and is a qualified ASLPR and IELTS assessor. Mr Lich supervises all TEACHERS AT QIBA and is responsible for student counselling. Kevin Tyler

Mr Kevin Tyler - Managing Director,

brings a wealth of teaching and administrative experience to QIBA, having spent his entire teaching career on the Gold Coast. As Managing Director, Mr Tyler administers and monitors QIBA’s courses, financial systems, students, staff, Australian and International Marketing and Projects. Mr Tyler is responsible for the daily running of the Academy and administration staff at QIBA, with particular interest in overseas students’ achievement and well being.

Simone Short

Simone Short - Registrar and Office Manager

A key person in the Academy, Simone is responsible for registration for domestic and international students, supervision of office staff, liaison with overseas agents, student record maintenance as well as visa and passport monitoring. As Registrar, Simone handles all Enrolment applications.

Simone’s interests are dress design, kick boxing and landscape gardening and she enjoys travelling. Simone has travelled extensively in England and Europe and now is learning Spanish prior to visiting Spain in the near future. Hola! from Simone.

 

Karen Jepsen - Homestay & Administration

Karen has many years of experience in customer relations and business management, providing her with effective administration and communication skills. Karen has also worked as a child care worker and in that role was responsible for the physical and psychological well-being of young children. Karen holds academic qualifications in Arts and Psychology and worked as a Postgraduate Course Advisor at the University of NSW. This is where Karen gained a lot of experience with international students and study pathways.
As a mother of three children and a long-term resident on the Gold Coast, Karen is in an ideal position to show you the immediate local area and help with your adjustment. She is available for any concerns you may have or to help you to get involved in local community activities or clubs.

Gavin

 

Gavin Otway – Head Teacher Business and Technology 

B.Bus, Dip.Bus, Cert IV Workplace Assessment and Training, G.K.I.H.S. (M.Ed, Grad Cert TESOL pending)
Gavin has a combined 18 years' experience in the Hospitality and Multinational Retail sectors. Over this time he has been involved in various projects in auditing, franchise development, corporate training and events management. In addition to his business obligations, Gavin studied traditional therapies and fitness training, incorporating both areas into personal health and rehabilitation programs. While completing his business degree, Gavin also became involved in lecturing life skills programs in high schools.

Gavin maintains a keen interest in organisational change and innovation, corporate education, and human resource management as key issues in business success, He has also consulted in the development of small businesses in Queensland across multiple sectors and is passionate about supporting small business enterprise and entrepreneurship. Gavin is eager to incorporate his experience into vocational education and support students learning new skills to take into the workplace, develop their own business or for future studies.

Liz Taylor 

Elizabeth (Liz) Taylor - Coordinator, English for Academic Study Program

Ms Taylor graduated at Glasgow University in the United Kingdom with honours in the Master of Arts program, specialising in English and German linguistics and language studies. After some time teaching in a German Academic High School, Liz migrated to Australia and also completed a Certificate IV in TESOL. Liz joined QIBA in 2007 and has become specialised in the delivery of university pathway programs.


Having lived and studied in foreign countries, Liz shares and understands many of the challenges our current international students face.
Liz's various interests include: Travelling and cross-cultural exchange, TESOL curriculum development, Skydiving, Yoga and Knitting. Liz has a great sense of humour and has become very popular with students enrolled in our EAS program.

Sara Jepsen

Sara Jepsen - Reception/ Administration 

Sara is enjoying her new position in Reception and Administration at QIBA. Students like to stop to have a chat with Sara at the front desk and enjoy her friendly and outgoing personality. Sara's local knowledge of the Coolangatta Tweed region is extremely useful to students. In her spare time Sara loves to go to the beach and movies with her friends as well as enjoying family time. Recently, to celebrate her birthday, Sara challenged herself with a tandem skydive onto Kirra Beach. For 2009 Sara plans to continue part time studies in business and administration whilst working full time at QIBA enjoying taking care of the international students.
